Remembering Peter Brock – 20 Years On - (8th September 2006)
Today marks 20 years since Australia lost one of its greatest motorsport heroes, Peter Brock.
Known affectionately as “Brocky” and forever remembered as the “King of the Mountain,” Peter Brock conquered Mount Panorama an incredible nine times. But his legacy was about more than trophies—he connected with everyday Australians through his kindness, determination and genuine love for motorsport.
His sudden passing on 8 September 2006 shocked the nation, but his spirit still lives on every time engines roar across Mount Panorama. Today, Bathurst winners proudly lift the Peter Brock Trophy—a lasting tribute to the man who became part of the mountain’s history.
Twenty years may have passed, but legends like Peter Brock are never truly gone.

Jamie Whincup and co-driver Paul Dumbrell had fought from near the back of the grid and were leading with just one lap remaining. However, Whincup was critically low on fuel and had been trying to nurse the car home. Chaz Mostert and co-driver Paul Morris, who had started last on the grid, were rapidly closing the gap.
As they climbed over the top of Mount Panorama on the final lap, Mostert was right on Whincup's rear bumper. At Forrest's Elbow, Mostert made his move. Whincup's car began to run out of fuel as they accelerated onto Conrod Straight, allowing Mostert to sweep past and take the lead. Mostert then powered away to claim an incredible victory, while Whincup dropped from first to fifth by the finish line.
Scott McLaughlin completes first 2.03 at Mount Panorama, Bathurst
In 2017s Bathurst 1000, Scott McLaughlin obliterates the lap record and storms to ARMOR ALL Pole Position for the 2017 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 recording a 2.03.831.
This jaw-dropping lap competes with fellow countryman, Greg Murphy's 'Lap of the Gods' in 2003. The 2017 pole winning lap across the Mountain has a special place in the modern history of Supercars.
